Belgian 'cross team takes mid-season break in Spain
With no cyclo-cross races in Belgium or the Netherlands this coming weekend, the stars of the European cyclo-cross circuit have opted to head south to warmer climes for training camps commencing earlier this week and running through the latter portion of next week. While the Telenet-Fidea squad opted for the Mediterranean island of Mallorca, rival team Sunweb-Napoleon Games chose the coastal city of Calpe, Spain as their destination for a mid-season break.
"This is mostly a program of long-distance training on the road, but I will also include a few sessions in the woods," said Subweb-Napoleon Games team manager Mario De Clercq.
"This break comes just in time for many of our riders. Klaas Vantornout was looking forward to it, he even left a day earlier for Calpe. For Kevin Pauwels it is good that he can go someplace away from the stress. Gianni Vermeersch has been missing his explosiveness in recent 'cross races while Jim Aernouts still needs to build his base after his broken leg."
In addition to current team members, three of the squad's new signees for 2014 are also in attendance at the camp: Michael and Dieter Vanthourenhout plus Dominique Cornu.
The team will spend 10 days in Calpe, Spain and return home to Belgium next Thursday. Sunweb-Napoleon Games riders return to racing on Saturday, December 7, at the C1-rated Scheldecross race in Antwerp, Belgium.

CHANGE TRAINS FOR A QUICKER JOURNEY

According to the latest timetable information released by Spanish train operator RENFE, the only direct service from Alicante to France will be withdrawn from the 15th of December.

However, despite the reduction in the long distance service, the journey will take less time, generally, and be cheaper, although timetables and prices are of course subject to change and availability.
Leaving on Monday the 11th of December, the 11:09 departure from Alicante to Montpellier will arrive over 10 hours later, at 21:14, at a single ticket price of 100 euro. However, leaving a week later, on the 17th, the 11:09 departure means a change of trains, but your journey will end in Montpellier at 20:21, taking just over 9 hours, arriving an hour earlier then the previous week. Not only that, the ticket price is also cheaper, working out at just 85 euro, one way.
If you want to travel from somewhere a little closer, your departure time from Orihuela will still be 10:01, arriving at the earlier time of 20:21, at just over 87 euro for your 10 hour and 20 minute journey, compared to 103 euro for the 11 hour and 13 minute journey of this week.
Meanwhile, RENFE have also announced changed to their onboard catering and premiere services for their high-speed train network. Their new “Preferente” ticket will feature a variety of travel benefits over the standard ticket price, such as use of the executive lounge, free parking and possibility to carry a pet, but the at seat meal element has been removed, resulting in a cheaper ticket than before.
Instead, food will be available from their new, “Cafetería Móvil”, or “trolley service” as we might call it, which will make its way along the train during the course of the journey. That also means that passenger in standard or economy seats will also be able to take advantage of the service, as, “Turista” and “Turista +” tickets will also be offered refreshments, as well as a buffet car on most services, all at the same price as before.

Historic drawings found in Javea

ANCIENT drawings have been found during restoration work on the Casa de la Candelaria in Javea.
The municipal archaeologist, Joaquim Bolufer, said test have dated them to the 15th century.
These are drawings representing various sailing vessels, two figures apparently dancing and a warrior armed with a short sword and shield.

The pictures are distributed over several walls of the upper floor of the house, which was originally a Gothic mansion and has undergone several extensions.
The Valencian Restoration Institute will now help Javea Town Hall to preserve them.
